Horse's Neck

  • 2 oz Bourbon
  • 1 oz ginger beer
  • 3 dashes Bitters Lab, Aromatic Bitters
  • Lemon peel for garnish

In a old-fashioned glass combine bourbon, ginger beer & bitters over ice. Garnish with a long lemon peel over the edge of the glass. Enjoy.

The Horse's Neck is a classic cocktail but was originally a non-alcoholic drink served in the late 1800's, made up of everything but the alcohol. In 1910 though, someone had the genius idea to start adding liquor, notably brandy or bourbon, to it and all rejoiced! 

Serves 1


  • 1 1/2 oz Bourbon (we used Elijah Craig - but any good bourbon will do)
  • 3 oz ginger beer, preferably Garwood's Ginger Beer
  • 1/4 oz Basil simple syrup*
  • 3 dashes Bitters Lab, Aromatic Bitters
  • Basil leaf for garnish

In an glass combine bourbon, simple syrup, ginger beer. Add ice, then dash with bitters & top with a fresh basil leaf.

Serves 1

*Basil simple syrup: 

1 cup water / 1 cup sugar / bushel of basil leaves torn into pieces - in a saucepan over medium heat combine sugar, water & basil leaves untilsugar is dissolved. Remove from heat, let cool and add to all the things! keeps for 1 month refrigerated - {pfft, as if it would last that long}.

Beehive Barrel Reserve Gin Old Fashioned

  • 1 1/2 oz Beehive Distilling Barrel Reserve Gin
  • 1/4 oz simple syrup
  • 3-4 dashes of Bitters Lab, Aromatic Bitters
  • Orange zest for garnish
  • Griotte cherry

In an old fashioned glass, with ice, combine gin, simple syrup and bitters. Stir with orange zest and cherry.

Serves 1
